Christmas Quiz

Spotlight on Vitamin D

Vitamin D3 plays a vital role in our bone health. Without this vitamin, we cannot absorb calcium from our diet which is essential for strong bones and teeth, as well as a healthy, balanced immune system.

Low vitamin D levels are very common in the UK population during these winter months. Strong sun (over UV3 index) to exposed skin with no sun lotion on can produce up to 20,000 iu in 30 mins. This can only happen in the UK in the summer from April to September, 11AM-4PM (your shadow needs to be shorter than you to make vitamin D). Our 4000 iu sub-lingual tablets are like a daily dose of 5 minutes of strong sunshine.

Some of the common symptoms of vitamin D deficiency include:

  • bone pain
  • fatigue
  • muscle weakness or aches
  • feelings of depression
  • low energy levels
  • hair loss
  • impaired cognition

Some treatment options that we offer are:

  • Intramuscular booster – this is a booster of vitamin D into the muscle. The dosage can vary depending on the level of deficiency and is normally to be repeated every 3-6 months until the condition resolves.
  • Vitamin D3 + K2 sublinguals - When tucked between cheek and gum our sublingual lozenges allow for fast absorption of vitamin D3 and K2 into your bloodstream. This is a really efficient way of maximising the benefit of this tablet as it avoids any gut issues you may have that might hamper absorption via the digestive tract. They contain 4000 iu (100 mcg) of vitamin D3 and 150 mcg of Vitamin K2.
  • Vitamin D3 + K2 drops - These are liquid meaning that they are easy for dosing children and each bottle contains 550 drops. For every 3 drops you receive 1000 iu (25 mcg) of vitamin D3 and 35 mcg of K2. For every 12 drops you receive 4000 iu (100 mcg) of vitamin D3 and 150 mcg of K2.
