Functional Strength Exercises

Improving functional strength can reduce the likelihood of injury and can support your rehabilitation goals.

To aid your recovery and overall health, we have created a short series of exercises to improve functional strength. These can each be completed once a day during every day tasks, such as boiling a kettle. Each exercise video includes adaptations to allow you to find the level of effort appropriate to your individual needs. 

Assisted Squats

This series of squat exercises targets the glutes and quads. Progressions involve:
1. Shallow squat
2. Deeper squat
3. Offset squat.


Assisted Push Up

This series of push up exercises targets the chest and shoulder muscles. Progressions involve:
1. Assisted push up
2. Assisted push up and hold
3. Assisted push up with varied grip

Calf Raises

This series of calf raise exercises targets the calves. Progressions involve:
1. Double calf raise
2. Double calf raise and hold
3. Single calf raise

Bridge Exercise

This series of bridge exercises targets the core and glutes. Progressions involve:
1. Lying pelvis tilts
2. Lying abdominal hollowing
3. Glute bridge hold

Seated Exercises

This series of seated exercises targets muscles in both the upper and lower body. Progressions involve:
1. Chair crab holds
2. Seated knee extension
3. Seated high knees
